School Directory--The PTO will be selling school
directories for the 2014-2015 school year. The cost of the directory is
$5.00. All proceeds from the directory benefit the PVE - YES PTO.
The directory is scheduled to be ready during the fall quarter and will be sent
home with your student. Return form and payment to school by Oct. 3.

Yorktown Elementary holds an annual Honor Day each year in May to recognize students for a variety of activities and achievements. Two awards that students often receive are Perfect Attendance and Honor Roll. Due to questions in the past, Yorktown Elementary would like to clarify the guidelines to receive these awards in May.
Yorktown Elementary All “A” Honor Roll – Students must earn an “A” in all subject areas for each of the first 3 quarters. The 4th quarter is not considered since it is not yet complete at the time of the awards day.
Yorktown Elementary A/B Honor Roll – Students must earn a letter grade of “A” or “B” in all subject areas for each of the first 3 quarters. The 4th quarter is not considered since it is not yet complete at the time of the awards day.
Yorktown Elementary Perfect Attendance – Students must be present each and every day to receive the perfect attendance award. Students who are tardy or attending appointments who miss more than 2 hours of school will be counted as absent for a half-day. Bereavement Days and Religious Holiday are exempt.
Yorktown Ministry gives away food to local families in need the third Saturday
of each month from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at 9108 Sutherland Ave. (corner of Broadway
and Sutherland in Yorktown). A photo ID and proof of residency in Mt.
Pleasant Township is required.

The cost of a school breakfast will remain the same for the 2014-2015 school year. However, an increase of .25¢
per school lunch has been approved. Listed below are some of the factors considered in determining the necessity for the meal price increase:
- Increased cost of food, cleaning and disposables.
- All grains served must be “whole grain”, thus resulting in higher food cost.
- Serving sizes of fruits and vegetables for breakfast/lunch have increased.
- Increased cost of new equipment, equipment repairs and operational supplies.

2014-2015 Student Handbook Attendance Policy
Parents--please note that attendance letters are mandated by the State of Indiana. Attendance letters are sent weekly.
YES is again participating in the Box Tops program. We receive 10¢ for each Box Top. The next collection day is Fri., Sept. 26th. A monthly contest is held for the most Box Tops collected. The winning classroom receives an ice cream treat party. Mrs. Joseph's fourth grade classroom won the August contest. Additionally, YES collects Labels for Education. We do not receive money from Labels for Education, but the opportunity to "purchase" items for our school from the Labels for Education catalog.
On days of school closings and/or delays, information can be received through the following communication services:

If you are not signed up to receive automated calls or mass emails from Yorktown Community Schools, contact the YES office at 759-2770 to get signed up.
On two hour delay days, child care is offered at Yorktown Elementary for students in kindergarten through fifth grades. Parents may drop off any K-5 student at YES's main door starting at 7:30 AM. No prior sign-up or spot reservation is necessary. Qualified school personnel will oversee supervision. The cost is $4.00 in cash upon arrival for each student using the child care. Breakfast will not be served; however, students are encouraged to bring their own breakfast with them. In case of unforeseen school closures on days that are initially delayed, parents must pick up students by 10:00 AM or a fee of $50 will be assessed to cover the cost of staffing. Bus transportation for K-2 students will be provided to transport students to PVE at the conclusion of the delay.

Y.E.S. School hours: Students may enter the building at 7:30; school begins at 7:50. Dismissal is at 2:20.
